The 2011 vintage started with a wet spring followed by a generally cool summer, prolonging the growing season and kicking off harvest on the late side. Early autumn rains prompted growers and wineries to pick many varieties at lower brix. But not us! With Howell Mountain comes steady breezes, warm air, good drainage and excellent air flow, everything we needed to turn this “cold, wet vintage” into a knockout. The additional sunlight after the rains allowed us to let the fruit hang straight through to early November, and we picked at peak ripeness. Don’t be afraid to drink these wines now if you prefer, they are ripe and ready. Cheers!
